About
Clifton College is a private all-through school established in 1862, with divisions including the Prep School (primary education) and the Upper School (secondary education). It is one of the top choices for younger international students. The school is located in Bristol, a city in the southwest of England, often referred to as one of Europe’s most beautiful towns. Not only does the school have an outstanding academic record, but it also offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, making it one of the top “elite schools” in the UK.

Creating a “Home From Home” with Enhanced Boarding Facilities
Clifton College is committed to providing a nurturing boarding environment for its students, continually improving dormitory facilities to offer a comfortable “second home.” The school has three girls’ houses and four boys’ houses, promoting healthy competition among them. To enhance students’ sense of belonging to both their house and the school, Clifton College frequently organizes inter-house competitions, such as debating and singing contests.
Encouraging Academic Excellence
Clifton College maintains rigorous academic standards, believing that despite their varied backgrounds and abilities, every student has unique strengths. The school is dedicated to encouraging students to reach their full potential and achieve the highest academic success.
Fostering Well-Rounded Development
Clifton College’s extensive extracurricular program is a key attraction for both students and parents. In addition to traditional activities such as badminton, hockey, and choir, the school offers a variety of unique opportunities. Students can experience activities such as racing, the Ten Tors youth hiking challenge, and training with the Combined Cadet Force (Army, Navy, and Air Force). These experiences provide students with some of the most memorable and exciting moments of their school life.
Eve’s Visit
Visited in Easter 2023
Eve went to visited the Clifton Senior and Prep School and walked around the Clifton Area. The senior school has a great cricket pitch with its clock tower and you forgot you are in Bristol City.
Due to previous history, Clifton College takes safeguarding very seriously. And parents can be assumed about the safety of students
Boarding
There are seven boarding Houses in the Upper School, including four Boys’ Houses and three Girls’ Houses. In the Preparatory School, we have a co-educational boarding house.
Each Upper School House is home to 55–80 pupils during term-time. Most are full-time boarders involved in the College’s busy life for seven days a week, however, some families prefer to opt for a ‘flexi-boarding’ arrangement. This may range from regular ‘day-boarding’ with an entitlement of up to four nights per week, to ‘occasional boarding’ available on a per-night basis.
Boarders are encouraged to take part in any weekend activities or trips organised by their House. There is no restriction on full boarders going out with parents or guardians on a Sunday, unless they have commitments to fulfil. Apart from half-term breaks, boarders may also go home (or to a guardian), by prior arrangement, after any commitment on Saturday, returning on Sunday evening. That said, most boarders elect to stay throughout the weekend.
